Josphat’s involvement with the Audit, Tax and Advisory firm started in May 1994 when he joined the KPMG’s team as an independent consultant assisting in the establishment of a private railway in Kenya and conducting commodity audits in Ethiopia and Eritrea. He joined the firm on a full-time basis in November 1995 and was admitted into partnership in October 1999. In 2001, he was appointed the Managing Partner for the then Business Advisory Services and has been a member of the senior leadership team since then. Prior to his appointment as CEO & Senior Partner, he was the Head of Advisory Services, leader of the firm’s strategy as well as spearheading the People Agenda which is a key component of KPMG’s global and local strategy.
In the market, Josphat is well known for his public sector reform work, decentralisation and local government reform, strategic planning and performance improvement as well as involvement in various national and regional processes. These include various reform initiatives involving Government, Private Sector, Civil Society and Development partners, Scenario Planning in Kenya, steering committee of the East African Business Summit and as the immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Nairobi North. He is also a Trustee of Palmhouse Foundation, an educational trust which finances the secondary education of deserving students and mentors them to also impact positively on society.
Josphat is a qualified accountant and received his early training with another Big 4 firm. He has attended numerous executive development courses and was one of the participant’s in this year’s KPMG Partner Development Programme at the Gordon Institute of Business, University of Pretoria. He has also attended a programme on macroeconomic policy and management at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Josphat takes over from Richard B Ndung’u who has delivered tremendous growth for the firm over the last four years at the helm. In the firm’s tradition of managing leadership transitions, Richard will remain in the firm and continue to serve in the top policy and leadership structures.
